The back brief was a very research and idea driven task. As noted in the previous post, Dom and I were in charge of creating a pitch for the project.
Wanting to expand the project to include a design aspect, we wrestled with ideas of how to propose a new museum/cableway hybrid that would be designed in grasshopper. Thus we have come to a proposition to create a virtual museum within a physical cableway.
The cableway would be designed using computational techniques to be able to blend into the environment and yet to still be a figure of good design. The cableway would follow adjunct to the old ropeway, with the cable car made out of glass. through the use of transparent screen technology a series of historical photographs alongside maps, audio and an overlay of the old ropeway would appear as if still in place. This would form an engaging immersive experience for tourists and other visitors.
As a prototype output we have also come up with the idea to have an immersive room where we would set up projectors on four walls of a booked room within the university. This would then simulate the path, visuals and visual overlay of the cable car making its journey across the Katoomba valley.
The benefits of this semi controlled pathway, is that it minimises the amount of data within the UE4 file as we can control what the audience is looking at.
Lastly it was my job to create and collate the back brief presentation as each person was given a aspect of the project to research. The group met up once to review the PowerPoint and we also made use of a Facebook group to share and produce our work.
