Working on Remuneration

A week and a half ago the Arial ropeway group sat down and had a meeting, evaluating why we had gotten to a point with not much to show for it. We came to a decision that Eric and Molly will work on the environment, Dominique and George perform edits to the existing models and Hayley and I would research, write and present remuneration, I would also be tasked with contacting the client and making sure they are informed of what is going on and to get/interpret any site information from Mr. Hammond. This decision is solely based on each person's strengths and weaknesses, in conjunction with the inability to transfer the UE4 file between computers as the level would change from machine to machine, hence centralising it on Lukas's alienware. We have all come to an agreement and deem that the work has been evenly divided amongst the group members.

Today I had a long conversation with Nicole and then Russell outlining ideas to tackle the topic of remuneration. Below are my notes:

  • What can we expect to earn?

  • Remuneration is centred on 'quality of life' benefits inclusive of salary.

  • Numbers don’t always equate to the task at hand!

  • Financial and non-financial remuneration.

  • Esteem work.

  • Short term experience work as quantitative tools for a better remuneration package down the track.

  • Talk about internships within the industry (how/if they are payed and what value they add to you)

  • Award wages - salary protection

  • As CoDe students without an architecture degree, what industry do we fall under?

  • Knowing your worth VS knowing people in firms that perform the same roles.

  • What value can you add to a firm? (Improve productivity, improve design?)

  • Are you a person who is easy to work with? Can you put a dollar value on good interpersonal skills?

  • Salary sacrifices (to superannuation or tax benefits)

  • How to negotiate respectfully in an interview.

From speaking to Russell, he suggests speaking to Jeremy Harkins as visualisation and gaming level work is his field. I'll contact him later in the week and find out his opinions in terms of a real life remuneration package if the project was completed in a commissioned environment.
