Week 9 Presentation - IP

In my opinion, out of the five optional topics intellectual property and remuneration, are respectfully more challenging to research and present to university students. They are content and data heavy, which doesn't help in an attempt to engage a class. My hat goes off to the oculus group who, with the tag line "a simple presentation on a complicated subject" managed to engage and inform for over an hour.

Comments:

  • They broke-down the difference of patient, trademark and trade secrets very well.

  • Not only did they relate IP to their own project, but to other groups, outlining what as a student you have copyright over and what the university owns. This was the highlight of the presentation, it shows that they are not self-centred and that they are really following the tag line of 'collaboration studio'.

  • Only Andrew spoke without notes. Each member spoke relatively well, however most talked down into their notes which slightly disengaged the audience.

  • The slides were simple and logically layout. Used appropriate graphics and questions as titles, this made the listener think of their own response to the topic before the presenter spoke.

  • They made an informative video that was unfortunately quite similar in concept to a previous group's, however there was evidence that they listened to Nicole and Russell's feedback and improved on the short-falls. (I still think it would be better to show the video in the beginning as an ice-breaker) and after a great presentation I don't think the video added anything to what had been said.

The presentation created an intellectual debate on IP which was sustained for quite a while amongst the class. This demonstrates the power of a good presentation.

What I Will Take from the Presentation/What I have done as a Result of Hearing the Presentation:

As mentioned in the beginning of this post, my group's toping and this toping share the same intellectual 'load'. This group has done a fantastic job and I'm going to pay attention to simplifying the content on my slides and providing well researched and palatable examples of remuneration.
